As we celebrate a decade of Solution Talk, we’re shining a light on the people who have helped shape our service from the very beginning – our volunteers. Their commitment, compassion and willingness to keep learning have strengthened every conversation we’ve supported. Here, one of our volunteers shares their experience of being part of the Solution Talk team.
Volunteer Interview: Reflections on Being Part of Solution Talk
Q: What does volunteering with Solution Talk mean to you Volunteering for Solution Talk has enabled me to grow and build my confidence in my role as a mediator. I felt I was constantly building new skills, and I have gained inspiration from Laura and Jules through the regular training I received. During our supervision sessions, I have learned and gained insight from other mediators.
Q: Why did you choose to volunteer I chose to volunteer in order to maintain my mediation skills, and because I felt supported by Solution Talk. I enjoy being a mediator and being able to support those in conflict. Each case is a learning experience for me.
Q: What do you value about the role or the organisation I value the in‑depth training and support I receive from Solution Talk, and the opportunity to mediate across a range of conflict situations — workplace, community and more.
Q: What benefits have you experienced personally or professionally I feel part of a team and I’ve grown in confidence. Mediation has benefited my paid professional roles because I’ve been able to transfer the skills learned and used in mediation into those roles.
We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and generosity of volunteers like this, who bring skill, empathy and professionalism to every case. Their contributions have shaped our first 10 years and will continue to shape the years ahead.
